Current Authoring Process and How MNS is Evidence-Based
Critical Care, General Nursing, Pediatric, and Emergency Nursing skills were adapted from highly respected nursing textbooks written by leaders in their fields. During the adaptation process all skills were reviewed and updated by experienced nurses (clinical specialists, nurse practitioners, and nurse educators) well versed in evidence-based practice and who are currently practicing in their specialty.
Critical Care skills are reviewed and endorsed by the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses (AACN).
Maternal-Newborn, Neonatal, Mental Health, Oncology, and Perioperative skills are being written as original material by authors with expertise in those fields.
All new and revised skills undergo a rigorous peer review process by carefully chosen experts from the related specialty.
Mosby authors follow stringent guidelines for selecting only the best, most respected references for authoring or reviewing content.
References older than 5 years are used only if they are considered classic references—and then are labeled as such in the reference list. A “classic” reference is a widely cited, standard work of established excellence that significantly affects nursing practice and may also represent the foundational research for practice.
The level of evidence (LOE) is identified in many skills (Critical Care, Pediatric, Neonatal, and Mental Health) and is added as skills are updated.
Clinical Consultants from each specialty track changes in practice and continually update skills; revisions are released monthly.
Skills also undergo a complete review yearly.
