It’s time to meet all five heroes.

With your help, we searched high and low for the Mosby’s Superheroes of Nursing. And now, we’re proud to introduce to you these five outstanding caregivers who go above and beyond every day.

The 2013 Mosby’s Superheroes of Nursing were introduced at the ANCC National Magnet Conference® in October. They are:

The Protector

The Protector

Melody Butler

Pediatric Registered Nurse
Good Samaritans Hospital Medical Center / Nurses Who Vaccinate • Lindenhurst, NY

hr

Melody created Nurses Who Vaccinate when she saw the need to help encourage nurses to advocate for global health and preventive medicine. Vaccines are an amazing way for nurses to protect patients, loved ones and themselves from preventable deadly diseases. The organization promotes knowledge and competency in immunizations and positions nurses as vaccine champions among colleagues, patients, and the public.

The Achiever

Samantha Donlin

Registered Nurse
UF Health & Shands Children's Hospital • Gainesville, FL

hr

Sam's hospital desperately needed a sedation team of MDs and RNs to help with invasive interventions on the general pediatric floors. Sam rallied with the nursing staff in the trenches and worked with the MDs to develop tools and procedures, and had RNs sign up to cover the interventions. Per Sam’s protocol, a pilot program was initiated with a
Sedation Resource RN available.

She serves as the Chair of the Research Council and has conducted and published original research related to education. Chris is one of those unique researchers who can also translate and apply research in her practice and help others learn to do so.

The Validator

Sheelu Joseph

Clinical Manager, Cardiovascular Care Unit & Central Telemetry
Houston Methodist Willowbrook Hospital • Houston, TX

hr

Sheelu leads the initiative in her area for decreasing misidentified specimens and medication errors. Her unit rarely has an error. She holds them accountable for following processes and is always looking for ways to improve the current system. Sheelu does this with an incredibly positive attitude for patients, nurses and other clinical workers.

The Connector

Ofelia Layugan

Mentoring & Professional Development Specialist (MAP Specialist)
Citrus Valley Health Partners • Eastvale, CA

hr

Ofelia is responsible for creating professional development modules and administering them through Mosby’s Suite. She makes her self readily available and accessible to all staff members, thus reducing the anxiety and confusion that may easily occur when completing study modules. She is an excellent communicator and facilitates knowledge exchange amongst nurses at all levels of the organization.
